The Motorola Razr2 V9m is the latest hype in the cell phone market because of its sleek body and the cool features. The new V9m, the successor of the Razr V3, is given a total face-lift by Motorola and Alltel. Alltel presented it with a few innovative features such as the Celltop application and the TeleNav GPS. Alltel also took over the external display and customized it according to them.

The V9m differs from its predecessor in a number of features. Basically it is the slimmer steel body, bigger external display and the cleaner lines that give it a total new look. The color choice, however, is not so exciting to many. The V9m is provided with the dull grey color. I hope it does not distract your eyes from its technical features. The size of the V9m, however, remains unchanged from the earlier models. The V9m measures 4.05 inches x 2.08 inches x 0.46 inches, and it weighs 4.1 ounces.

The external display features a 2-inch screen with 65,000 colors. It is big enough to give excellent display for date & time, signal strength, battery life, and photo caller ID. The display also functions as the camera viewfinder. Another great feature of the external display is the facility to access missed calls, the music player and the message menu. These settings are done by Alltel, and thus the V9m gains more popularity among its comrades. The onscreen buttons and the side controls offer excellent touch sensitivity.

The interior of the V9m is almost similar to the earlier models. It features a smart and catchy internal display and flat keypad buttons and navigation controls. Here again, the tactility of the controls is of great help to the user. A few differences, however, can be seen in the changes made in some of the control buttons and the interface offered by the menu.

The V9m carries a heavy load of functions. Apart from the usual address book, messaging, and polyphonic ringtones, it also features multimedia messaging, Bluetooth, voice commands and voice dialing, USB mass storage, etc. The not-to-miss features of the V9m are the TeleNav GPS application and the Celltop application offered by Alltel. However, the V9m does not offer integrated e-mails or instant messaging services. If you want the email, you would get it for an extra $4.95 per month.

The 2-megapixel camera comes with four resolutions, a list of editing options, and a 5X zoom. The V9m has a 65MB usable memory. If you need more, the microSD cards would serve the purpose. The music offered by the V9m supports different formats such as AAC, WMA, and MP3. There are a lot of customizable options for organizing the tunes and the visualizations. You can download tunes using Alltel ’s JumpMusic application. Also, you can buy music from eMusic. However, there are no wireless downloads available.

The overall performance of the V9m is above average. The notable features include its excellent interface, sound quality, and design. The V9m is available in stores for $299. The price is inclusive of the service. Good bargain isn’t it?
