The Bush Administration is planning to develop a new, powerful laser weapon. The laser, which will be mounted on the ground, will be able to use beams of concentrated light to destroy objects in space; specifically enemy satellites. Nearly a decade ago, the Clinton administration tried something similar. They tested an antisatellite laser. Bush’s plan, however, is much more ambitious.
A senior Pentagon official said that the White House finds space defense necessary. The military has been defending the laser project because they feel it’s important to defend American satellites against possible attack.
